We know there are other sports too of course, but why don’t we speak more about them?

Most high school sports revolve around football, basketball, and baseball. Being under the Friday night lights, hearing people cheer, hearing the ball dribbling on the gym floor, seeing the players hit a home run. We know there are other sports too of course, but why don’t we speak more about them?

Lola Soukup, a sophomore on the tennis team stated, “I personally don’t feel that tennis is an underrated sport, but that may just be because I haven’t played in my whole life and it isn’t my primary sport.” She followed up by saying “I don’t think that tennis is represented enough because speaking from experience, most people don’t even know that our school has a tennis team until the early out is announced on the morning announcements.”

The Varsity tennis coach, Michael Montross was asked if he noticed the difference in attention golf and tennis received. He stated “If by “attention” you are referring to supporters then I would say most definitely.”

Golf coach Thompson Garrard was asked the same question he stated “As far as support, I’ve never felt a lack of support from administration and staff, recognition wise no. Student body doesn’t follow those sports.”

Overall we can agree that even though these sports don’t get the same recognition as others, the athletes still work hard every day to make our school proud.
