Band Club

LHS Band performing in Huyck stadium at a Friday night football game!

You may have heard them playing in the morning, during passing periods, or at sporting events: it’s Lompoc High’s Band club! They performed at every home football game in support of our Lompoc Braves, they will compete as a “marching band”, and in the spring, they do individual instrumental competitions such as the drums.

Mrs. Anderson is the Instrumental Music Director here at LHS and is also the Instrumental Music Teacher at Lompoc Valley Middle School. This year, there are 32 students in the Band club. Prior to Covid-19, Band would normally have an average population of around 40 or 50 students. So, Mrs. Anderson is really happy with those that joined this year, after all, COVID had caused a decrease in motivation.

Their local performances, like LHS football games, take multiple weeks of preparation and competitions for marching band taking around two months to practice and memorize. Mrs. Anderson said, “It’s definitely not something where you learn it today and play it tomorrow.” When asked how she would describe the Band Club in one word, “Family” was her immediate response, “Band kids are really close and support each other. They care about each other, and I do too. It’s a lot of fun, and we have a good time together.” She has offered to teach anyone who is interested in learning how to play an instrument, saying “… our door is always open. Whether it’s the drums, or any other instrument, we’ll teach anyone who’s interested.”

If you are ever interested in learning or playing an instrument, you can find Mrs. Anderson in room MU-1, and when our band performs, be sure to show support!
