Lompoc River Back in Flow
In the last couple weeks we received a huge amount of rain. But this time more than any of the years. This caused a couple of floods around the area. Due to this weather during school hours many students decided to not attend. A couple of teachers couldn’t attend either because of their road being blocked. Our central streets were one of the affected areas, most of the school’s pathways were blocked as well with high floods. It was impossible to not get your toes wet during passing periods. But what were the good effects? The rain got our river flowing by the river bed. It hasn’t been seen like this in 13 years. A helicopter had to fly over to provide evacuation warnings to those that occupy the river bed. Field workers were affected in many ways as well due to them working outside, work had to be canceled not for one day but for weeks. They would only end up working once a week. Rain would overflow the fruits and vegetables, the excessive amounts of rain would cause them to lose flavor if they were close to ripening. For example strawberries sold in groceries tend to rot faster than usual because they are overflowed by water. But besides all this our river is back in flow.
