The spicy chicken sandwich is a source of conflict, tyranny and possible danger. Is it all really true or is it just a myth? What is the history of it and what do students around campus think about it?
Firstly, the spicy chicken sandwich has been on the school menu for over three years. Also, this product is made by Tyson Food Products and contains boneless skinless chicken breast, focaccia bread split, olive oil, swiss cheese, sun dried tomatoes, arugula, kosher salt, black pepper, cayenne pepper. Multiple students around campus have shared their opinions on this topic.
Among these, we talked to Sophia Sauers, a freshman at LHS, and here is what she had to say about the spicy chicken sandwich: “I heard from people that the spicy chicken sandwich gets people sick because it’s undercooked.” We then spoke to Jacob Ward, a freshman, who personally tried the spicy chicken sandwich. He reportedly experienced “violent vomiting and headaches,” and said that he “was absent from school because of this.” All of these are damaging claims against the spicy chicken sandwich, so we reached out to the district and here’s what they had to say: “The spicy chicken on the sandwich is made by Tyson. At LUSD, we serve a number of Tyson products, including chicken tenders, spicy chicken tenders, and hamburger patties.
Tyson also makes the chicken in the regular chicken sandwiches and the sausage for the egg and cheese breakfast sandwiches. They provide quality products that we are happy to serve to students.” So with all these quotes and information, does the spicy chicken sandwich actually make children sick?
Well, I personally put that theory to the test by eating the chicken sandwich myself. The result? Indeed it does. Shortly after, I suffered from headaches, stomach aches and vomiting. The day after, when I returned to school, I had to go back home due to more stomach aches and vomiting. Is this all a coincidence? Possibly, however, the evidence is stacking up. So with all this new-found information should you still eat the sandwich? Maybe, but that’s up for you to decide.
Just remember the next time you have to choose lunch. The spiciest option may not be the best.
