The Lompoc cross country team is about to kick off their new cross country season, with lots of excitement and good energy. The cross country boys have shown confidence and determination during their practices, showing improvement in their speed and endurance since their summer practices. David Gomez, a second year member states, “the devotion of our team will surely lead us to have a successful cross country season, our team has proved countless times the sheer will and determination towards this sport which puts [us] further than other teams.”
The daily routine of running for these Braves consists of a two lap warm up around the track on an easy day and a four lap warm up on a workout day. After the warm-up, they stretch to prepare for the run that is to come. The more advanced runners run around 10 miles daily, the younger groups runs around 5-6 miles daily. When going on a run, whether inside of the track or out on a long run around town, the team runs as a group to show great sportsmanship and good team chemistry. While on the runs the braves show high levels of concentration and endurance. Francisco Napoles, a four year Varsity member states, “I believe we have all been working hard enough to win league because we have been training hard and the determination of our team is unmatched.”
This year’s cross country team is full of good vibes and lots of exciting energy. The team recently had a team breakfast as a team bonding experience, at this breakfast they all shared meaningful memories and all had a great time together. They hope to carry on these good vibes and energy for the rest of the season. Team member Joel Diaz says, “our cross country team is good because we have a strong sense of teamwork and dedication, which helps us consistently perform well in competitions.” The braves are starting their first meet of the season on September 7th. Until then, the Braves have promised to work hard during their practices until that first meet so that the can show all of the rest of the schools what they have in stock.
The 2024 cross country team is well-trained and ready to face the upcoming season head-on. We wish nothing but the best of these outstanding athletes, go Braves!
