With the election behind us and Donald Trump emerging victorious as the 47th president of the United States, we’re left to wonder: what’s next? And by how much did Trump win? Well, Donald Trump defeated Kamala Harris with an electoral vote tally of 312 to 226. Now, the country turns its attention to what the Trump administration’s priorities and policies will be.
One key decision already made is the nomination of Senator Marco Rubio as Secretary of State. Rubio, who has represented Florida in the Senate since 2011, was once a rival to Trump during the 2016 Republican primaries but has since become a strong ally. Trump has also chosen Lee Zeldin, a former New York representative, who gained national attention with a strong campaign against Democratic Governor Kathy Hochul in the 2022 New York gubernatorial race. Zeldin, a veteran and former member of both the House Foreign Affairs and Financial Services Committees, previously advocated for lifting New York’s ban on natural gas fracking.
For the role of U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations, Trump has selected Elise Stefanik. Known for her steadfast support of Israel and her vocal criticism of the U.N., Stefanik has represented New York in Congress since 2015 and once served as an aide to President George W. Bush. Lastly, Trump announced Susie Wiles as a key choice. Wiles, who began her career in Republican politics as a scheduler for the Reagan administration, was instrumental in Trump’s Florida operations in both the 2016 and 2020 campaigns.
With these appointments, Trump is surrounding himself with experienced allies ready to advance his administration’s agenda. So possibly what could come next who knows? And what does this mean for Lompoc High School? There’s only one way to tell when January comes around!
