The bathrooms at Lompoc High School—often seen as a necessary stop for students throughout the day—has sparked a debate over whether the allotted 5-minute break is truly enough. While some students feel it’s sufficient, others argue that the time is too short to handle personal needs effectively.
Angelina Hernandez, a Lompoc High student, believes that for routine visits, 5 minutes is enough. However, she points out that for more complicated issues, the time limit is almost never sufficient. “When you have something like your period, 5 minutes is hardly enough.”
On the other hand, Nicolas Hernandez, another student, feels that the 5-minute break is too rushed for anything. “I can barely walk to class in 5 minutes,” he says.
With these contrasting opinions, perhaps it’s time for the Lompoc High School administration to reconsider the current bathroom break policy. Many students, like Angelina and Nicolas, suggest that a longer break could be beneficial, offering more time for students to address personal matters without feeling pressured.
As the discussion continues, it’s clear that the issue of bathroom time is one that should be addressed—because students need time to take care of themselves and feel ready to return to class.
